Water police model ship W3 Emden RC kit from Ro-Marine Krick

History of the original:

In 1999/2000, the new coastal boat W-3 "Emden" was launched at the shipyard Gebr. Schürenstedt in Bardenfleth - a slender, approximately 30 metre long steel boat with a draught of 2.1 m, two diesel engines (approx. 1590 hp each) and a top speed of around 37 km/h.

Stationed in Emden's outer harbour, it was flanked by experienced colleagues from the coastguard. The W-3 was tasked with monitoring the traffic close to the entrance to Emden harbour and ensuring safety in the North Sea up to the 12-mile zone.

In terms of equipment, the boat was prepared for extensive use - from radar and echo sounder to police radio, border wave system and towed hose rescue island - and even had a chamber with bunks, a shower and an Avon dinghy with a 40 hp outboard motor.

One stormy November day: wind and waves are lashing the North Sea. The crew sets course for the harbour entrance, where a sporty sailing boat is manoeuvring in a dicey situation. With precise starboard turns and the use of the Avon dinghy, the W-3 steers the sailing boat safely past the outer piers - until the dinghy can take the stranded crew on board. The W-3 follows and guides the crew into the harbour while the large diesels roll to the beat of the coast.

After 2000, the model was built first - manufacturers such as Robbe and Krick offered detailed 1:25/1:50 scale models. The original, on the other hand, was decommissioned, sold privately and now - so it is said - serves a Dutch angler as a leisure boat.

The current kit is a new edition of the former Robbe design and impresses with its many individual design options for various coastguard boats, including conversion into an elegant motor yacht.

Kit contents description:

The model hull and superstructure are made of deep-drawn ABS parts, with plywood stiffeners and beams. The fittings are included in the kit and do not have to be purchased separately. The accessories are partly made of ABS, but there are also plastic parts produced by injection moulding, as well as particularly finely detailed resin 3D printed components. Portholes and railing spigots are laser-cut. An RC-capable drive is provided. Two counter-rotating shafts with propellers and a twin rudder system are included in the kit. Special functions such as lighting and crane operation are possible. Model stand is included. The building instructions are comprehensive and consist of text with clear instructions and photos.

The 27-page German building instructions are divided into 14 construction stages. The instructions are based on text and supplementary photos.
