Elbehafen I. Icebreaker tug RC model ship kit from Türkmodel distributed by Krick Modellbau
History of the original:
The tug Elbehafen 1 was built in 1971 and initially served in Brunsbüttel. It was originally stationed at the Elbehafen Brunsbüttel, which is part of a group of harbours strategically located on the Lower Elbe and the Kiel Canal. This position made the tugboat an important part of the maritime infrastructure in the region, particularly in the area of tug services for larger ships entering or leaving the harbour.
The vessel was built specifically for the requirements in Brunsbüttel, where it played a crucial role in daily harbour operations. Over time, however, the tug was renamed and today presumably sails under the name Kiwi.
During its active service, the Elbehafen 1 was an indispensable part of port logistics in Brunsbüttel, which is known for its extensive handling capacities and the ability to transport various goods by sea, rail and road. Especially in the context of the busy Kiel Canal route, the tug was essential to ensure the safety and efficiency of shipping traffic.
With icebreaker bow, bow thruster, Kort nozzle and Becker rudder, this tug was ideally equipped for all operations.
Description of the kit:
The model kit contains all the parts and materials required for construction. The hull is built using the classic keel and frame technique. The frames are made of plywood and are laser-cut. The simple hull panelling is made from 2x5mm strips. The deck parts are made from MDF panels, with the advantage of a very smooth surface. The superstructure is richly detailed and the manufacturer has already laser-marked the add-on parts. Time-consuming measuring and searching for what fits where is almost completely eliminated. The set contains lots of small parts and add-on parts that have been produced using the 3D resin (liquid resin) process. Pressure levels are almost invisible and the parts can be used immediately with little reworking. Unusual for a kit in this price range are the many interior parts. The bridge is fully equipped. Bolts, screws and rivets are already moulded on the pumps and fittings. The complex mast is also printed in parts, with details already moulded in. The lighting for the navigation lights and the wheelhouse has also been included. The kit only includes the material for the stand model, an electric drive has been planned and can be realised with optional accessories.
