Salvage tug "Happy Hunter" RC model ship as a construction kit from RoMarin Krick
History of the original:
The Happy Hunter is a detailed replica of a Dutch ocean-going and salvage tug built for the transport and salvage company MAMMOET. Ships of this type are primarily used to provide assistance in maritime emergencies or to salvage damaged ships, but are also used in the offshore business.
The towing winch has a double drum on which up to 1000 metres of line can be wound. The winch has a pulling force of 75 tonnes and a holding force of 200 tonnes. The hydraulic crane on the main deck has a maximum lifting capacity of 5 tonnes with an outreach of 8 metres. In the meantime, the ship has undergone various modifications and conversions. Most recently, the ship sailed under the name "Smit Hunter". In June 2003, the Smit Hunter went into dry dock in Rotterdam for extensive maintenance work. During the refurbishment, a fire broke out which caused massive damage and led to the ship being scrapped.
Kit description:
The model was built to a scale of 1:50. The hull and parts of the superstructure are made of moulded ABS parts. Many details are already moulded onto the hull and do not need to be added separately. The structures and superstructure are made from laser-cut ABS material and are finely detailed. The model should be powered directly by two high-torque motors. Fixed Kort nozzles are used to increase the thrust, allowing even the most difficult towing and bowing manoeuvres to be performed in conjunction with the optionally available bow thruster. A basic set of attachments is included in the kit. An additional fittings kit is available to equip the model with all fittings and lighting. The spacious plastic hull allows the installation of numerous special functions. Experienced modellers will equip the Happy Hunter with functional lighting, radar, anchor winch, sound and towing equipment - much of the necessary preparatory work has already been done and the necessary brackets and fixtures are included in the kit. Even the fully functional removal of the crane is possible. Shafts, rudders, plastic propellers and the Kort nozzles are included in the kit.
If you don't want to worry about the motorisation, you need to order a drive set with two motors under the number ro1108. Two powerful motors including interference suppression and coupling are required. A recommendation for a suitable aileron thruster can be found further down on our page.
