History of the original:

The Passau Water Police with its nine police officers is locally responsible for a 57 kilometre section of the Danube, parts of the rivers Inn, Ilz and Vils, as well as the area of the German-Austrian border. Their duties include monitoring the transport of dangerous goods and inspecting watercraft. The waterway police in Bavaria have 42 boats of various types. "WSP 10" monitors a section from the German-Austrian border to approx. 80 kilometres upstream.

The 15 metre long and 3.90 metre wide boat was built in 1989 at the Bodan-Werft GmbH shipyard in Kreßborn on Lake Constance. On 30 June 1989, the WSP 10 was put into service for the Bavarian Water Police Directorate with its home port in Passau on the Danube. The type designation of this boat is 'Streckenboot'. Two MAN diesel engines, each with 300 hp, give the boat a speed of approx. 40 km/h. In normal service, the boat is operated by 2 men, who ensure that the technology works well, such as radar, echo sounder, autopilot, 4 radios and explosion protection, i.e. overpressure can be generated and fresh air can be sucked in via the funnels (in the event of tanker accidents).

Since 2020, the new WSP 10 from the Austrian ÖSWAG shipyard in Linz has replaced the ship from 1989.

Kit description

In addition to the moulded plastic hull, the kit from Billing Boats contains all the individual parts required to build the model. The superstructure is made of plywood and is precisely laser-cut. The model is equipped with many details, some of which are made of wood but also of plastic and metal. The model is driven by two shaft systems which are included in the scope of delivery. The building instructions consist of drawings and a step-by-step photo guide. A model stand is included.

The conversion to a driving model is pre-planned in the instructions.

Who is the kit suitable for?

The construction is considered to be relatively simple and is suitable for modellers with little experience. Experienced modellers can expand the ship into an RC driving model and implement special functions such as lighting and sound.
