The aero-naut harbour tugboat Jonny is a large-volume functional model based on modern harbour tugboats. The kit is designed for realistic operation and, thanks to its size and wide hull, offers excellent conditions for a clean RC conversion with powerful drive and optional additional functions.

Construction and design

The hull is manufactured as a GRP hull. Positions for hull openings are moulded, as are skirting boards. The working deck is covered with laser-cut wood. The deck superstructure is made of ABS, with other components also available in Vivak, depending on the assembly.

Alternatively, an upgrade with Schottel propulsion is also possible; the assembly instructions contain relevant information. Many details are provided for the upgrade, including components for a stern roller, which also allows for a variant as an offshore tugboat. The wheelhouse furniture is included for individual interior design.

RC equipment and operation

Jonny is designed for a two-shaft drive with two rudders. This results in highly controllable handling at low speeds, as required for towing operations and harbour manoeuvres. Depending on the design, the model can be tuned for powerful, realistic thrust. A Kort nozzle can be retrofitted, as can the alternative superstructure with Schottel drives, if different manoeuvring characteristics are desired.

Functional parts and detailing

The kit contains numerous movable and functional details, including a towing winch, auxiliary winches, searchlights and other equipment. The fire monitors are designed to be rotatable. The lamp bodies included in the kit can optionally be fitted with LEDs to implement lighting functions.

A comprehensive nickel silver etched parts set with over 100 parts provides fine detailing and complements the fittings set.

Scope of delivery and important information

The model kit contains the GRP hull with moulded rubbing strakes, laser-cut parts made of wood, ABS and Vivak, an etched parts set (over 100 parts), a comprehensive fitting set, two ship shafts and comprehensive 3D assembly instructions.

Drive motors, controllers, batteries, servos, remote control, adhesives and paints are required separately.

Area of application

The Jonny is a functional model for ponds, lakes and harbour basins. Its size, weight and twin-shaft system make it ideal for realistic manoeuvres, towing and true-to-life sailing, especially where a smooth, powerful sailing performance is more important than high speed.
