Icebreaker Elbjørn RC model kit from Billing Boats

History of the original:

In the period from 1954 to 1996, the M/S Elbjørn was an active part of the Danish icebreaker fleet. Her career as an icebreaker ended abruptly on 12 February 1996 when a generator on board exploded. Although the Elbjørn could still reach the harbour under its own power, it was clear that its days as an icebreaker were over. Today the icebreaker is a restaurant and museum ship in the harbour of Aalburg.

Kit contents description:

The model is built in timber frame construction, the hull has double planking. All wooden, plastic and fitting parts required for construction are included.
Like the original, the model is powered by 2 screws. Simple propeller shafts are included. The special feature, however, is the arrangement of the propellers. A 4-blade brass propeller with a diameter of 50 mm sits as usual at the stern of the ship. However, the second propeller with a diameter of 30 mm is mounted at the bow. Two electric motors drive the propellers.

A 1:1 scale building plan and illustrated building instructions complete the kit from Billing Boats.

Who is the kit suitable for?

The kit is aimed at modellers who already have experience in ship modelling. Installing the engines requires a great deal of modelling skill and ingenuity, as the hull is extremely narrow at this point.

What do the building instructions look like?

The multilingual building instructions consist of very brief drawings without detailed explanations. Parts list and overview plans. Good technical imagination is required here.
