Tugboat Smit Nederland ABS hull RC model kit from Billing Boats

History of the original:

In the course of 1979 and 1980, the Dutch tugs Smit Denemarken, Smit Duitsland, Smit Finland, Smit Ierland, Smit Nederland and Smit Rusland were built at the shipyard BV Scheepswerf & Machinenfabriek 'DeMerwede' in Hardinxveld. The tugboat Smit Frankijk was built at BV Scheepwerf Jonker & Stads, Hendrik Ido Ambacht. All 8 tugboats are used for the towing of deep-sea vessels in Rotterdam. They are stationed in Vlaardingen. All boats are equipped with 2 propellers. Each propeller is driven by a FHCO 240 diesel engine from Strokwerks-poor. Each has an output of 900 hp at 1100 revolutions per minute. The adjustable propellers are installed in a Kort nozzle. A Becker rudder is fitted behind each nozzle unit. The tugboat has a pulling force of 27 tonnes and a top speed of approx. 12 knots. There is room for a crew of 8 people on board.

Kit contents description:

This kit is equipped with a deep-drawn ABS hull and laser-cut wooden parts. The Becker rudder with Kort nozzle, ship's shaft with stern tube and propeller are designed to be driven by an electric motor. All fitting parts are included with the building plan and instructions.

With the latest revision of the kit, the Becker rudder is once again supplied in brass.

Who is the kit suitable for?

The kit is aimed at modellers who already have experience in ship modelling.

What else is needed?

Paints, adhesives and tools are required and can be found in our range.

Under accessories we recommend a 600 brush motor, plus a speed controller, clutch and battery as well as a remote control system.

What do the building instructions look like?

The multilingual building instructions consist of very brief drawings without detailed explanations. Parts list and overview plans. Good technical imagination is required here.
