The first shrimp trawlers came to Dorum, a small Frisian village on the Wurster North Sea coast. In 1909, three shrimp trawlers were registered here. The village experienced its heyday in the 1950s with up to 34 shrimp cutters in the small cutter harbour. After that, their numbers steadily declined until, in 1974, there were only 15 shrimp cutters with their home harbour in Dorum. DOR12 "Sirius" is a typical shrimp cutter built in 1980 with a 225hp MAN engine. Today, excursions on this type of cutter are possible in Neuharlingersiel in the area of the Frisian islands, where you can accompany the shrimp fishermen at work.

Sirius is the classic in our range of model ships and has been one of the most popular construction kits for years. The reason for this is undoubtedly its high degree of faithfulness to the original, which is primarily due to the owner of the original, who had the ship carefully photographed and measured down to the smallest detail. The appearance of this splendid, beefy cutter is particularly impressive and anyone who dares to do something special should start by making the nets lowerable.

Description of the kit:

The kit is very well equipped. The hull is moulded from ABS, the deck is planked with precious wood. All superstructures are assembled from plywood parts. The brass tube masts and the fittings set with countless small metal parts leave nothing to be desired and a simple shaft with plastic propeller is also included. True-to-original nets and lettering as well as a detailed construction plan with instructions and detailed sketches make assembly easier.

Who is the kit suitable for?

The kit is aimed at modellers with extensive experience in ship modelling; the model is not recommended for beginners.
It is a small challenge to make the nets functional.
