Type VIIb submarine

The German Type VII B submarine was built between 1936 and 1940 and played an important role in the submarine warfare of the Third Reich during the Second World War. As an improved version of the Type VII A, it was characterised by a greater range, improved manoeuvrability and more powerful armament. A total of 24 Type VII B submarines were produced, which sank numerous Allied ships, particularly in the early years of the war. Famous representatives of this type were the U-47 under Captain Günther Prien, which carried out the spectacular attack on Scapa Flow in 1939. Production was discontinued in favour of the more advanced Type VII C. The Type VII was probably the best-known submarine in the world, as over 1000 were built in various versions.

Description of the kit:

This model of the Type VII b submarine is a basic kit with all the thermoformed parts made of high-quality ABS plastic that are required to build a purely static model.
If you want to make the model drivable and submersible, you will need the propulsion and diving kit. However, you will need to use larger depth rudders than those used in the scale model. It is not possible to convert the stand model into a submersible model at a later date.

The hull of the Type VII b submarine consists of two ABS half-shells, the submersible tank, ballast tank and the deck, which is deep-drawn from thin material so that all slots and openings are clearly visible. The turret superstructure is also assembled from several deep-drawn ABS parts. All fittings and the two cannons are included in the basic kit.

The technology: The diving process of this model is semi-dynamic, which means that a pump and a flood tank are included in the diving set, but these only support the dynamic (speed-assisted) diving.

Who is the kit suitable for?

The kit is aimed at modellers with experience in ship modelling and is a good introduction to submarine modelling.
