Müritz cabin boat RC ship kit from Krick Modell
History of the model:
The history of RC kits for cabin boats, especially with regard to the well-known ‘Müritz’ model from the GDR era, dates back to the late 1960s and 1970s. Model making was very popular in the GDR, with kits for boats, aeroplanes and vehicles being particularly popular. The ‘Müritz’ cabin boat was one of the most highly prized RC models.
The ‘Müritz’ model was originally manufactured by VEB Modellbaukasten Annaberg-Buchholz. The attractive shape and design were the work of Karl Schulze. These models were characterised by their detailed reproduction of the original, which was reminiscent of the typical cabin boats that were common on the waters of the Mecklenburg Lake District, especially the Müritz Lake, from which the model took its name.
At that time, the model kits consisted mainly of deep-drawn plastic, wooden strips and metal and plastic fittings. Building such a model required craftsmanship and patience. A particularly characteristic feature of the GDR kits was the need to rework many parts individually in order to achieve a perfect fit.
The models were often operated with simple remote controls, which were quite rudimentary by today's standards, but still offered great driving pleasure. They were particularly popular at model building events and in model building clubs, which were widespread in the GDR.
After reunification, production of the original GDR kits was discontinued, but the ‘Müritz’ cabin boat is now making a comeback. Nostalgic model builders appreciate the kit for its historical authenticity, and there are now numerous reissues and reproductions that preserve the style and charm of the original GDR models.
The kit in detail:
The frame construction with large hull sides allows the model to be built quickly and easily. This kit has been completely redesigned using 3D CAD for use with remote control and modern electric motors, and fully captures the charm of the
historic model. All plywood parts are laser-cut. The step-by-step instructions explain how to assemble the precisely fitting laser-cut parts, even for beginners with no experience in working with wood. The shaft and stern tube as well as all materials for the rudder and linkages are included. A model stand is also included.
