aero-naut Queen – Mahogany sports boat from the 1960s as an RC wooden kit offering plenty of sailing and building enjoyment
The Queen from aero-naut is a true-to-life mahogany sports boat in the style of the 1960s. The model is based on the proven hull shape of the smaller aero-naut sports boats Classic-Sportboot and Diva, but has been significantly enlarged and supplemented with a new cabin superstructure.
In construction reports, the Queen is often described as a very rewarding project because it has a ‘classic’ look, can be built with clean craftsmanship and can later be sailed both comfortably and significantly more sportily – depending on the motorisation.
Target group
The Queen is particularly well suited for model builders who want to build a classic wooden boat and are looking for a sailing model that is not only decorative but also fun on the water. In construction reports, it is also repeatedly mentioned as a good first ‘precious wood’ boat if you want to work cleanly and are a little interested in propulsion and technology.
Construction and design
The Queen is a wooden kit with a bent frame design. Many parts are largely pre-finished, so that construction can begin quickly. The hull is aligned on a pre-punched Depron plate as a slipway. Attach the frames, insert the keel and longitudinal beams – this ensures that the frame structure is neatly aligned from the outset.
Access to the interior is via a removable cabin roof. In addition, the cockpit can be removed as a complete shell from the rear part of the hull, which facilitates maintenance, battery replacement and retrofitting.
RC equipment and sailing
The Queen is designed as a sporty motorboat. As a planing boat, its sailing characteristics are strongly determined by the motorisation, so everything from calm, realistic semi-planing to a much sportier setup is possible.
Brushless setups are often chosen for the drive because they allow flexible tuning via battery voltage and propeller. The spacious interior also offers good conditions for a clean RC installation and for optional extensions such as lighting or additional equipment details.
Scope of delivery and important information
The kit contains the wooden parts, fittings and the ship's shaft required for construction. Drive, controller, battery, servo system, adhesives and paints are required separately. As the model reacts like a glider, it is worth choosing the drive design carefully so that the handling and speed are suitable for the desired use.
