History of the original:

The Torborg is a classic Norwegian rowing and sailing boat with a wide range of uses. This type of ship is very well known in Norway. The original, dating from 1870, is owned by the Stavanger Maritime Museum. The Troborg was used as a pilot boat. It could be quickly rigged so that ships waiting for the pilot could be reached quickly. There was a lot of competition among cargo ships in the Norwegian fjords. In order to remain competitive, the waiting time for a pilotage call had to be as short as possible. The pilot boats therefore had to be highly manoeuvrable and fast. The Torbourg was equipped with sails as well as 2-3 pairs of oars.

Kit contents description:

The wooden kit is constructed using the frame construction method and contains all the necessary components prefabricated by laser cutting from plywood and selected timber for the planking and masts. The hull is planked with wooden battens. All fittings are also included. Cleats are made of plastic. Juffern and blocks are made of wood. Rigging twine and sail cloth are included in the kit. The plan and instructions are in several languages, including German. Material for a model stand is included.

Who is the kit suitable for?

The kit is aimed at modellers with little experience in ship modelling.

Paints, adhesives and tools are required and can be found in our range.

What do the building instructions look like?

The multilingual building instructions consist of very well explanatory drawings and little text.
There are parts lists and colour recommendations. Good technical imagination is required here.
Overview plans and useful drawings for the rigging are included.
