Arnanes FD 10 - Fishing yawl kit from Billing Boats

History of the original:

This fishing yawl was built in the Faroe Islands at the end of the 1930s. The Faroese boat is in fact not a local type, although this was very popular on the islands, but an English boat. The FD 10 is rigged with an English cutter rig. The English sold these boats to the Faroe Islands, Icelanders, Norwegians etc. as they themselves switched to trawler fishing. The boat was equipped for dry fishing, i.e. the fish were gutted and salted on board. Spruce and oak were probably used to build the boat. Most boats built in England were made of lime and elm. A first-class building material that is almost impossible to obtain today. FD is the name for Fuglefjord on the island of Eysturoy (Østerø Syssel). Unfortunately, no precise information is available on the whereabouts of the FD 10.

Kit contents description:

For the hull of this model, a keel is first built on a frame and then planked with mouldings. All wooden parts are precisely laser-cut. The equipment set is extensive, the parts are mainly injection moulded from plastic. Lots of brass fittings. The dinghy is made from a single piece of deep-drawn material. Sail cloth and of course rigging twine are included for the sails. Building plan and instructions are included. A simple model stand is included.

The kit is aimed at modellers with extensive experience in ship modelling.

What do the building instructions look like?

The multilingual building instructions consist of text instructions and explanatory drawings.
There are parts lists and colour recommendations.  Good technical imagination is required here.
