Complete construction kit of a typical Dutch fishing boat of the Botter type as a 1:35 scale model ship made of wood.

History of the original

The Zuiderzee Botter is a typical Dutch fishing boat that could be seen for centuries on the shallow coastal waters of the Zuiderzee, today's Ijsselmeer. The flat-bottomed hull made it possible to fish the inland sea with its pronounced tides; falling dry was not a problem. The crew usually consisted of 2 to 4 people who kept their catch alive and fresh in a vat in the centre of the boat.
With the construction of a large dam across the Zuiderzee in 1932, the small inland sea in the north of the Netherlands was divided in two, creating a large saltwater lake called the Ijsselmeeer and adding the rest of the old inland sea to the Frisian Sea.
After this division, no new boats were built and the wood and sails were replaced by steel and motorised propulsion. An association for the preservation of botters keeps some of them in their original condition.

Construction features

Its construction with a false keel and frames brings the assembly of the model closer to the construction of the real ship.
The kit contains all the necessary parts to build the model. All wooden parts are precisely prefabricated using the laser cut process. The high-quality fittings and a set of fine brass etched parts are clearly laid out in a sorting box. A ready-sewn set of sails is included. The deck is completely planked with precious wood mouldings. A small model stand is included.
