History of the original:

The dinghy of the Endeavour was a so-called "jolly boat" or "longboat". It was about 8 metres long and had room for about 8 to 10 people. The boat was propelled by oarsmen and had sails to make headway in suitable wind conditions. During Cook's voyages, the dinghy played an important role in exploring the coasts and landing on islands. It was used to make landings by scientists, explorers and crew to explore geographical features, collect samples and facilitate encounters with the locals.
The Endeavour's tender had a robust construction to withstand the harsh conditions at sea. It was built from wood and sealed with waterproof canvas. The boat was stored on board the Endeavour and lowered and raised again when required.

Launched in 1765 and chosen three years later by James Cook in preparation for his historic voyage, HMS Endeavour was involved in important discoveries. Thanks to this British ship, Australia was discovered and Tahiti and numerous islands were located. In addition, new animal and plant species unknown in Europe were discovered. And finally, it made it possible for the first time to calculate longitude with great accuracy using mathematical formulae.

The kit features high-quality parts for assembly, high-precision laser-cut lime plywood frames, hand-sewn sails, cotton rigging twine and die-cast brass metal parts as well as brass etched parts. As a bonus, this model kit includes a wooden model stand with a metal nameplate.

Printed instructions are not included. The richly illustrated step-by-step instructions are only included with the set in digital form and can also be downloaded free of charge.
