1934 America's Cup yacht Endeavour kit with tools included from manufacturer Amati
History of the original:
The Endeavour was a yacht that competed in the 1934 America's Cup. It was built for British industrialist Sir Thomas Sopwith and designed by renowned yacht designer Charles Ernest Nicholson. Sopwith's goal was to bring the Cup, which was based in the United States at the time, back to Great Britain. The Endeavour was a so-called J-class yacht and was considered a masterpiece of sailboat construction. It was 39 meters (129 feet) long and had a sail area of over 1,000 square meters (11,000 square feet). The ship was built of wood and had an elegant and streamlined silhouette. In the qualifying round to determine the British team for the America's Cup, the Endeavour prevailed against numerous other British yachts and secured its place as challenger. It competed against the reigning Cup defender, the Rainbow, which represented the United States. Although the Endeavour was more technically advanced than the Rainbow, it was unable to win the competition. The Rainbow proved to be faster and ultimately won 4-2 against the Endeavour. Although the British yacht had achieved some victories, it was unable to bring the Cup back to Great Britain. Despite the defeat, the Endeavour became a legendary yacht due to its elegant design and sailing performance. It was a symbol of British sailing craftsmanship and was used in various regattas after the competition. After World War II, it was sold and changed hands several times.
Today, the Endeavour is considered one of the most important yachts of its time. It has a permanent place in the history of the America's Cup and is an example of the outstanding craftsmanship and design that was applied in the 1930s.
