History of the ship San Felipe Known by various names such as "San Felipe", "El Real" or "Real Felipe", the ship is named after Philip V of Spain, the first king of the Bourbon dynasty in Spain. This ship was built in 1716 in the shipyards of San Feliú de Gixols. It is a warship with 3 decks of the first rank. Its design includes a robust construction with double inner and outer planking, which gives the hull great strength. The scale of construction in the 17th century was huge - more than 4,000 trees were used and according to some historians this contributed significantly to the deforestation of the Spanish forests. With 108 cannons and impressive dimensions of 67 metres long, 16.5 metres wide and 12 metres deep, the San Felipe, decorated with majestic carvings, was a formidable opponent that could take on any enemy of the time. Her service began in October 1717 in the Sardinia campaign under the command of squadron leader Esteban Mari Centurione. She then took part in the Sicilian campaign in 1718 under the command of Captain Pedro Despoix and squadron commander Antonio Gaztañeta e Iturribalzaga. At the end of her mission, the San Felipe was taken to Syracuse and then sent to Mahón, which was in British hands. Due to an oversight, however, there was a fire and an explosion in which the San Felipe was completely destroyed.
The kit contains ready-made sails, all parts and fittings, pre-sorted according to assemblies. Different woods and precision-cut parts (more than 3800) enable exact assembly and ensure a very realistic, detailed appearance. All fittings are made of metal. The kit includes a full-colour step-by-step assembly guide that shows all the steps in detail. Detailed photos show complicated steps and provide quick orientation.
