Wood stain
The surface of your model ship could do with a new look or a refreshing of the wood? Then you have come to the right place. In the Wood Stains and Tints for Model Ships category, you will find stains for various types of wood that will give your model ship a coloured or textured accent. In addition to stains, you will also find varnishes, tints or thinners in the JOJO model shop.
Glazes, tints and stains - what's the difference?
You want to start a new model building project, but you are still deciding on the right paint system? Glazes and stains emphasise the grain and structure of the wood. When you treat your model ship with a glaze, it only works on the surface of the wood and protects it. Stain, on the other hand, for example walnut stain, penetrates deep into the wood of your model ship and changes its appearance. Please note that stains are not a wood preservative and that a sealing layer is necessary after application. This protective layer can be created with oil, wax or wood varnish (solution-based varnish).
Wood stain for model boats
Our range includes the following stains:
-Stain Sapelli
-Walnut stain
-stain pine
-stain oak
All stains are 100% water-based. You can therefore dilute the stain with water or mix them together to obtain other colour shades. The packaging size is 100 or 125ml.
Application of wood stains and glazes on model ships
When staining, it is important to work with small quantities. When applied to large areas, the wood may not absorb the paint evenly due to differences in structure. If possible, work on the individual parts of your model ship first. The advantage of staining is that the stained surface can be further treated as desired. Glazes can be applied to your model ship without much concern after application and drying time. In both cases it is important that you shake the bottle or cans before use.
Varnishes and thinners
From our online shop we can especially recommend the colourless and high gloss clear special varnish "Boots-Lack". After application of the varnish, the treated surfaces are seawater-proof, weather-resistant, abrasion-proof and resistant to alcohol and household cleaners. We recommend a special thinner "Thinner for Clou Boat Varnish" to go with the varnish. You can use this not only to thin boat varnish, but also to degrease wooden surfaces to be renovated. The thinner is also suitable for cleaning brushes or removing stains.
