The model can be built either as the Spanish training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano or as the Chilean sailing training ship Esmeralda. The kit thus offers two variants steeped in tradition in a single set, combining maritime model-making with the history of famous four-masted training ships.
The Juan Sebastián Elcano was launched in Cádiz in 1927 and continues to serve the Spanish Navy as a training ship to this day. Its name commemorates the navigator Juan Sebastián Elcano, who completed the first circumnavigation of the globe following Magellan’s death. The Esmeralda also symbolises nautical training, international training voyages and the long tradition of great sailing training ships. Thanks to the included figurehead, flag and nameplate, the finished model can be displayed in great detail to match the chosen version.
