RC receivers for model boats and RC modelling

A reliable RC receiver forms the link between the remote control and the model. It receives signals from the transmitter and relays the control commands to servos, speed controllers, switch modules, lighting and other functions. In model boat building in particular, a stable radio link and a sufficient number of control channels are essential – especially for functional models with numerous special features.

Receivers for simple model boats and complex functional models

A simple model boat often requires only a few channels: one channel for the speed controller and another for the rudder servo. However, for tugs, workboats, lifeboats, naval vessels or other functional models, the number of channels required increases rapidly.

Additional channels can be used, for example, for:

• Bow thrusters and side thrusters

FlySky Receivers – AFHDS2A, AFHDS3 and ANT

Our range includes a wide selection of FlySky receivers for various radio control systems. These include models featuring AFHDS2A, the more modern AFHDS3 protocol, as well as receivers for the ANT system.

Depending on the model, PWM, PPM, i-BUS, i-BUS2 or S.BUS interfaces are available. This allows for the integration of both classic servos and speed controllers as well as modern digital components and expansion modules.

Of particular interest for model boat building, for example, are waterproof FlySky receivers for use in boats, as well as models with integrated additional functions. The FlySky R7D, for example, combines a 7-channel receiver with an integrated LED light controller and is therefore particularly suitable for models with extensive lighting.

Graupner HoTT receivers

We also offer a range of receivers for users of Graupner HoTT remote controls. The range extends from compact receivers for models with few functions to high-performance multi-channel receivers such as the GR-12, GR-16, GR-24 or GR-32 Dual.

This means suitable solutions are available for both simple model boats and sophisticated functional models with numerous servos and switching functions.

FrSky Archer Plus, Tandem and TWIN receivers

You’ll find various receiver series for modern FrSky remote controls.

The FrSky Archer Plus receivers operate at 2.4 GHz and, depending on the model, support ACCESS and ACCST D16. In addition to classic PWM outputs, features such as SBUS, telemetry, FBUS, signal redundancy and wireless firmware updates are available.

The FrSky Tandem receivers are particularly powerful. They utilise both 2.4 GHz and 868 MHz simultaneously, combining the advantages of both frequency bands. Depending on the model, PWM channels, SBUS, FBUS, S.Port, telemetry and redundancy functions are available.

The range is complemented by FrSky TWIN receivers, which utilise two active 2.4 GHz frequency channels simultaneously.

GigaProp and FASST-compatible receivers

Compact receivers with various channel counts are available for GigaProp remote controls. Models with telemetry also support the transmission of measurement data and, in some cases, the connection of external sensors via the i-BUS system.

In addition, you will find FASST-compatible receivers with various channel counts as an alternative for corresponding remote control systems.

Telemetry, SBUS, i-BUS and other interfaces

Modern RC receivers can do much more than just control servos. Depending on the model chosen, additional interfaces and functions are available, for example:

• Telemetry for transmitting measurement data to the transmitter
• SBUS for transmitting multiple channels via a single signal line
• i-BUS and i-BUS2

• S.Port
• Connection options for external sensors

Which RC receiver is suitable for my model boat?

When making your selection, you should first check which radio protocol your remote control uses. The transmitter and receiver must be compatible with one another. Next, the required number of control channels is crucial.

For simple models, just a few channels are sufficient. For a model boat with multiple functions, however, it is worth allowing for additional capacity. This means that further lighting, servos, sound, switching or special functions can be added later without having to switch directly to a larger receiver.

You should also pay attention to:

• Radio protocol and transmitter compatibility
• Number of PWM channels
• Operating voltage
• Dimensions and weight
• Telemetry support
• SBUS, i-BUS or FBUS interfaces
