Metal tubes and metal rods for model shipbuilding

Metal tubes, brass rods and brass wire for model shipbuilding are versatile raw materials for making your own small fittings, technical components and scale-accurate details. Brass, in particular, is easy to saw, drill, file, bend and solder, and is therefore one of the classic materials used in sophisticated model shipbuilding.

In our range, you will find brass tubes, brass wire and brass rods in various diameters, as well as soft copper tubing. The different dimensions allow for both delicate detail work and more robust constructions on model ships and RC boats.

Brass tubing for ship model making

Brass tubing can be used in ship model making for a wide range of individual components. Typical applications include rudder tubes, sleeves, bearings, spacers, pipework, mast and fitting parts, as well as structures for railings, ladders and superstructures.

Thanks to the various external and internal diameters, tubes can be nested inside one another or combined with suitable brass rods. This allows for the creation of movable mountings, plug-in connections and telescopic structures.

Brass also offers the advantage that individual parts can be soldered cleanly together. This means that even more complex fittings and sturdy metal structures can be custom-made.

Brass wire and brass rods for railings and fittings

Brass wire and brass rods are among the most versatile materials used in scratch-building model ships. Thin diameters are suitable, for example, for railings, handrails, brackets, eyelets and fine fittings.

Thicker brass rods can be used, amongst other things, for axles, bolts, supports, shafts, reinforcements or custom-made fittings.

Particularly in the case of historical or technically detailed model ships, brass allows many components to be produced with far greater delicacy and stability than with plastic.

Brass for railings, davits and custom fittings

When constructing a railing in model shipbuilding, brass wire and brass rods can be used, for example, as railing cables or as raw material for self-made railing supports.

Davits, ladders, handrails, brackets, mountings and other deck fittings can also be made from brass wire or brass tubing. By bending, soldering and then sanding, sturdy components are created which can subsequently be painted or left as exposed metal.

Soft copper tubing for piping and cooling water lines

Copper tubing for model-making is particularly suitable where pipes need to be bent to tight radii. Soft copper tubing can be easily adapted to the available space within a model ship.

In functional RC model ships, for example, it can be used for cooling water pipes and other technical pipework. Visible pipework on steamships, workboats or other technical model ships can also be replicated using it.

Semi-finished metal products for scratch-building, conversion and repair

Brass tubes and metal rods are not only useful when building a new model ship from scratch. They are equally suitable for conversions, repairs and the retrofitting of details to model kits.

Missing fittings can be recreated, plastic parts replaced with sturdier metal ones, or existing structures customised. Brass tubing and brass wire are therefore essential materials, particularly for model-makers who produce components themselves.
