Admiralty Colours – Acrylic paints for historical ship modelling
Admiralty Colours is a specially developed series of water-based acrylic paints for model building – with a clear focus on historical ships, naval colour palettes and authentic tones from different eras. The paints are available in small containers suitable for model building, can be applied easily with a brush or airbrush and are suitable for wood, metal and plastic.
Product description
The colours of Admiralty Colours have been developed on the basis of historical models and offer exceptionally high colour fidelity. Matt and silk matt surfaces support a realistic representation of ship planks, superstructures, hulls, masts or gun turrets. Thanks to their fast drying properties, fine details can be worked out cleanly and multi-layer coatings can be applied efficiently.
Advantages for model builders
- Authentic historical colours for ships from different nations and eras
- Acrylic-based: low odour, water-dilutable, easy to clean
- Suitable for airbrushing and brush painting
- High opacity, ideal for fine details or larger areas
- Good adhesion to wood, plastic and metal
- Fast drying for speedy working and layering
Recommendation for use in historical ship modelling
Admiralty Colours is ideal for model builders who value accurate colouring and realistic effects. The paints can be applied thinly without covering details and are ideal for:
- Hull painting of historical sailing ships
- Decks, superstructures and masts
- Gun details, rigging elements and decorations
- Realistic ageing (weathering, washing, dry brushing)
- Restoration of historical wooden ship models
Practical tip:
A thin primer coat ensures optimum adhesion. Apply the paint in several thin layers to leave structures visible and achieve an authentic matt historical surface. Light washes or lighter accents make models appear particularly vivid and detailed.
