Mamoli
Mamoli ship models – classic wooden kits with a long tradition
Mamoli is one of the best-known names in historical ship modelling. For many decades, the brand has been synonymous with classic wooden kits of historical sailing ships, yachts, exploration vessels and warships.
Today, Mamoli is continued as a brand by Dušek Ship Kits. The classic designs have been technically revised and adapted to modern manufacturing methods. Current Mamoli kits combine traditional wooden construction with precision-machined components, extensive fittings, rigging materials and detailed assembly instructions.
Traditional wooden model shipbuilding with modern manufacturing
Many Mamoli models are based on the classic frame construction method. The keel and frames first form the basic framework of the hull, after which the hull is planked with wooden strips.
Many kits feature double hull planking. The first layer shapes and stabilises the hull, whilst a second layer made of higher-quality wood provides the visible surface.
Today’s Mamoli kits also utilise precision laser-cut wooden parts. These are complemented by cast metal parts, wooden fittings, rigging and multilingual assembly instructions.
Historical sailing ships and well-known prototypes
The Mamoli range comprises ships from various eras and nations. These include exploration vessels, historical warships, galleons, frigates and prestigious yachts.
Well-known Mamoli models include, for example, the Golden Hind, HMS Beagle, Surprise, Britannia, Yacht Mary, Dutch Statenjacht and São Miguel.
The models differ significantly in terms of scale, size and level of difficulty. As a result, the range extends from comparatively compact models to challenging large-scale historical projects.
Large sailing ships, frigates and more compact models
With models such as the Golden Hind or the Surprise, Mamoli offers well-known vessels from European maritime history. Such models combine classic wooden construction with extensive rigging, numerous fittings and a high level of construction complexity.
In addition, there are smaller historical models and yachts such as the Yacht Mary or more compact variants such as the HMS Beagle. This means that Mamoli kits can be selected not only based on historical models, but also according to available space, experience and the desired scope of the build.
Fittings, rigging and construction documents
An important component of Mamoli kits are the numerous detailed parts.
Depending on the model, these may include, amongst other things:
laser-cut wooden components
Strips for the hull planking
Wooden decks and superstructures
Cast metal and wooden fittings
Cannons and anchors
Pulleys and blocks
Rigging twine
Masts and yards
Flags
Multilingual assembly instructions
Detailed construction plans
The exact contents of the pack vary depending on the model.
Mamoli has traditionally placed great emphasis on detailed plans and technical drawings. This classic character is retained in today’s kits, which are manufactured by Dušek.
Models for different levels of experience
Mamoli offers kits with varying levels of difficulty. Smaller models or variants with a pre-formed hull can make it easier to get started, whilst large models featuring frame construction, double planking and extensive rigging require considerably more experience.
Before purchasing, you should therefore consider not only the scale and dimensions, but also the construction method, planking, rigging and number of fittings.
