NiMh Battery Pack

NiMH battery packs for model boats and RC modelling

NiMH battery packs are a tried-and-tested, robust power source for model boats and other RC models. They are particularly suitable for classic brushed motors, speed controllers and functional models where a straightforward power supply is required.

In our range, you’ll find NiMH model-making batteries in various voltages, capacities and sizes – from compact battery packs to high-performance stick packs.

7.2 V NiMH batteries

7.2 V NiMH battery packs comprising six cells, each with a nominal voltage of 1.2 V, are particularly common. They are suitable for numerous RC applications and classic propulsion systems in model boat building.

Depending on the model, different capacities are available, for example:

• 1500 mAh
• 3000 mAh
• 4000 mAh
• 5000 mAh

A higher capacity generally allows for longer running times, but also increases the weight and, in some cases, the dimensions of the battery.

NiMH stick packs for different models

Traditional NiMH stick packs are often made up of robust Sub-C cells. More compact battery packs are also available for smaller models or where installation space is limited.

In addition to 7.2 V batteries, you will also find 9.6 V NiMH battery packs for motors and speed controllers designed for this voltage.

Tamiya and T-Plug connectors

Depending on the battery pack, different connector systems are used, including:

• Tamiya connector
• T-Plug / Deans
• T-Plug with adapter

Ensure that the connector is compatible with the speed controller or model you are using.

Advantages of NiMH batteries

NiMH batteries offer a robust and tried-and-tested solution for many model boats. They do not require a balancer connection and can be charged easily using a suitable NiMH charger.

Particularly for tugs, workboats and other displacement-type models, the higher weight compared to LiPo batteries can actually be an advantage if additional ballast is required anyway.

Choosing the right NiMH battery

When making your selection, the following points in particular should be taken into account:

• Voltage
• Capacity
• Dimensions
• Weight
• Connector system
• Motor and speed controller
• Desired running time
