Individual copper plates – embossed – for realistic hull planking in model making

These individually embossed copper plates enable particularly authentic reproduction of historical underwater planking in model making. Each plate is made of genuine copper and is manufactured using an embossing process that faithfully reproduces the typical structure and surface effect of the original historical plates. The fine embossing creates a lively, handcrafted appearance – ideal for model builders who attach particular importance to maximum detail.

Realistic effect and versatile processing

The individual copper plates are flexible to handle and can be adapted to almost any hull shape. They can be cut to size, slightly bent or applied directly overlapping to reproduce the characteristic pattern true to the original. Why copper plates were used on ship hulls

Historical wooden ships were planked with copper plates to protect their underwater hulls from two serious problems: the growth of algae, mussels and barnacles – which could significantly reduce speed – and shipworms, which severely damaged wooden hulls. Copper's natural properties made it both anti-fouling and pest-resistant. This allowed ships to remain fast, manoeuvrable and operational for longer. These embossed copper plates allow this historical principle to be realistically implemented in model making.
