History of the original:
The German battleship Bismarck was the largest and most famous warship of the Kriegsmarine during the Second World War and remains a symbol of the battleship era to this day. It was built in the 1930s as the lead ship of the Bismarck class at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, launched on 14 February 1939 and commissioned on 24 August 1940. With a length of 251 metres, a width of 36 metres and a displacement of around 50,000 tonnes, the Bismarck was the largest battleship ever built for Germany.
Its main armament consisted of eight 38 cm guns in four twin turrets, plus numerous medium artillery, anti-aircraft guns and torpedo tubes. Powered by powerful steam turbines, the ship reached speeds of over 30 knots (around 55 km/h). The crew numbered more than 2,000 men.
The Bismarck became famous for its only major operation in May 1941, Operation Rheinübung. Together with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, it sailed into the Atlantic to attack Allied convoys. On 24 May 1941, it engaged in battle with the British HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales in the Denmark Strait. The Hood exploded after a direct hit from the Bismarck and sank within minutes – a shock to the British public.
Shortly afterwards, however, the Bismarck itself was badly hit and lost fuel. A large-scale hunt by the Royal Navy began, ending on 27 May 1941 when the Bismarck sank after massive shelling and torpedo hits. Only about 115 of the crew survived.
The Bismarck is still considered one of the most famous battleships in the world today. Its short but spectacular service has made it a legend, representing both the technical capabilities and the tragic side of naval warfare history.

Now Amati has once again succeeded in significantly improving the design with even finer details. This model is unsurpassed in its richness of detail. The hull is designed in a wooden frame construction with precisely laser-cut parts. Countless etched parts plates with 2266 parts and many other moulded parts are used for the numerous details.
The colourful, well-illustrated Bismarck model building instructions show each stage of construction and leave no detail undescribed.
The Bismarck ship kit is designed as a display model. Thanks to the generous space in the hull and removable superstructures, the Bismarck model can also be easily converted into an RC version.

What do the building instructions look like?
The kit includes large-format construction plans with drawings and sketches and a manual with step-by-step instructions and photos. The construction process is comprehensively documented. A German translation is included and should be used in parallel with the English instructions.
