Colin Archer Billing Boats construction kit

Norwegian rescue cutter no. 1 "Colin Archer"
RS1 was built for the "Norsk selskab til skibsbrudnes redning" (Norwegian Shipwreck Rescue Society) in 1893 at the Colin Archer shipyard in Rekkevig near Larvik, Norway. RS 1 was named "Colin Archer" after her designer and builder. "Colin Archer" later became world-famous for her pointed-gate design. 30 vehicles of this type were built, most of them at Colin Archer's shipyard at Tollerodde in Larvik. RS1 Colin Archer has an eventful past: 40 years as a sailing rescue cutter, sold to private individuals in 1933, who installed a small auxiliary engine, in 1938 the voyage across the Atlantic, severely damaged in a storm near North Carolina in October 1954, discovered as a wreck on the Potomac River in December 1960. Colin Archer returned to Norway in December 1961 after 23 years in the USA - as the deck cargo of the freighter "M/S Tasco". Various owners followed, good times and bad. On 21 April 1972, the oldest Norwegian rescue cutter, RS1, was finally handed over to the Norwegian Maritime Museum in Oslo. In 1973, responsibility for the Colin Archer was transferred to the Colin Archer Sailing Cutter Club, which completely restored the ship and sails it as a floating cultural monument in agreement with Norsk Søfartsmuseum (the Norwegian Maritime Museum). Today, RS1 "Colin Archer" is a favourite participant in many ship veterans' meetings throughout Northern Europe.

This kit has been reworked by Billing Boats. The hull is built using keel and frame construction and planked with mouldings. Many of the wooden parts are laser-cut. The rudder, propeller shaft with stern tube and propeller are designed to be driven by an electric motor. The sails are controlled with 3 sail winches. The Windforce 1406 sail winch is recommended for the mainsail and 2 Windforce 1006 sail winches are suitable for the foresails. All fitting parts are included in the scope of delivery with construction plan and building instructions.
