When one thinks of the race to conquer the South Pole, the following names immediately come to mind: Ernest Shackleton, Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen.
When she was launched on December 17, 1912, the Endurance still bore the name Polaris. Originally rigged as a frigate, she was converted into a three-masted brigantine and in 1914 took part in the famous Antarctic expedition "British Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition" under the command of Sir Ernest Shackleton.
After the shipwreck on August 19, 1915, the crew was trapped in the ice of the Weddell Sea. For 522 days they withstood winds of up to 300 km/h and temperatures of 40 degrees below zero.
Shackleton, with a small group in the dinghy "James Caird", undertook one of the most heroic voyages in the history of navigation, which remains unforgotten to this day. Together with his crew, they managed to achieve the most important goal ... survival.
The expedition has gone down in history as an example of overcoming, heroism and will to survive.
The kit contains all the necessary parts to build the model. Only selected woods are used for the double planking. The basic framework is built using the frame construction method. All frames are laser cut and fit perfectly.
Nothing has to be sawn out by hand, only planks have to be adjusted. All fittings and attachments are prefabricated in high quality and are included in the set. Ready-made sails in the kit save a lot of work.
The step-by-step instructions are in German and include many construction stage photos. Plans and 1:1 templates show every detail and are helpful during construction.
