5-minute epoxy (100 g) – Fast. Strong. Precise.
Two-component epoxy adhesive for model making, repairs and construction
Our 5-minute epoxy (100 g bottle) is the ideal 2K epoxy adhesive for anyone who needs very fast, high-strength bonding in model making and in the workshop. Thanks to its short processing time, this fast epoxy is perfect for fixings, reinforcements and load-bearing joints – wherever speed is of the essence and the bond still needs to be durable.
Applications in model making (RC, aircraft modelling, ship modelling, dioramas)
This 5-minute epoxy is a versatile all-rounder for numerous model making projects.
RC & aeromodelling
Ideal for fast, stable bonding of components that need to fit precisely and withstand stresses – e.g. for assembly work, fixings and structural reinforcements.
Ship modelling
Suitable for building and assembling components, especially when combining wood and plastic. Its gap-filling properties allow even small uneven areas to be smoothed out cleanly.
Dioramas & architectural model making
Perfect for mixed bonding and precision work when components need to be fixed quickly and the bond must still be permanent – even with delicate details and load-bearing elements.
Filling, stabilising, reinforcing
Epoxy is not only suitable for bonding, but also for filling small gaps and stabilising transitions. This creates robust joints with a clean fit.
Which materials can be bonded with 5-minute epoxy?
5-minute epoxy (2K epoxy adhesive) adheres particularly well to absorbent, rough and metallic surfaces and is ideal for mixed bonding (e.g. metal to wood or GRP to plastic). The bond is usually hard and very strong, making it ideal for many model-making constructions.
Very suitable (typical model-making materials)
Metals: steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminium*
Wood & wood-based materials: balsa, plywood, MDF, hardwood
Fibre composites: GRP / CFRP (glass fibre and carbon laminates), epoxy/polyester laminates
Hard plastics: ABS, PVC (hard), polystyrene (PS), acrylic glass (PMMA/Plexiglas), GRP gelcoat
Mineral materials: Ceramics, stone, concrete (for diorama/base construction)
Conditionally suitable (depending on surface & pre-treatment)
Polycarbonate (PC/Lexan): may work, roughening + degreasing strongly recommended
Painted/primed surfaces: adhesion depends on the paint – better to sand down to the substrate
3D printing materials: PLA / PETG often good with roughening + degreasing; nylon (PA) rather difficult, only with very good pre-treatment/primer
Not suitable or only very difficult to use
PE / PP (polyethylene/polypropylene) and PTFE (Teflon): very low surface energy – usually only reliable with primer/flame/plasma pre-treatment
Silicone, rubber/elastomers: generally unsuitable
Soft PVC: often problematic (plasticisers), adhesion often unreliable
*Important for metals (especially aluminium): roughen the surface (e.g. 120–240 grit) and degrease thoroughly (isopropanol/acetone*) to ensure optimum adhesion of the epoxy. Only use acetone if the substrate (especially plastics) is compatible with it.
Processing: How to achieve maximum adhesive strength
- Prepare surfaces: Roughening increases the adhesive surface, degreasing removes oil, dust and release agents.
- Mixing & dosing: Mix components thoroughly until the mixture is uniform; due to the short processing time, it is better to mix small quantities.
- Application & fixing: Join parts and fix briefly if necessary; remove excess while the epoxy is still uncured.
- Allow to cure: Hand-tight after a short time, full strength after complete curing.
Why use 5-minute epoxy instead of superglue?
Superglue is extremely fast, but can become brittle in many applications and is often disadvantageous for gaps or mixed materials. 5-minute epoxy offers better gap filling, higher fatigue strength and is particularly suitable for metal/wood/fibre composites – for robust connections on stressed assemblies.
