Plastic sheets for model shipbuilding

Plastic sheets for model shipbuilding are versatile materials for building, modifying and adding detail to model ships. They can be cut to size with precision and are ideal for superstructures, deckhouses, bulkheads, deck surfaces, panelling and numerous details.

Styrene and polystyrene sheets for model ships

Styrene sheets are among the classic building materials used in scratch-building ship models. The material has a smooth surface, is easy to cut, drill, file and sand, and can be worked with suitable plastic adhesives.

Thin polystyrene sheets are particularly suitable for delicate panelling, bulkheads, doors, covers and small superstructure parts. Thicker sheets can be used for more robust deckhouses, superstructures and structural components.

Polystyrene is a practical alternative to wood, particularly when building modern workboats, tugs, fishing vessels, naval ships and other functional models.

ABS sheets for sturdy constructions

ABS sheets for model-making are robust and suitable for components requiring greater stability. They can be used, for example, for superstructures, deck areas, interior structures, panelling and bespoke components.

ABS can be sawn, cut, drilled, sanded and – using suitable methods – also thermoformed. This makes the material particularly suitable for bespoke constructions and scratch-building ship models.

Transparent plastic film for windows and glazing

Transparent PVC film is ideal for producing scale-accurate glazing. It can be used, for example, for windows in bridges and deckhouses, portholes, cabin windows or skylights.

Thanks to the material’s thin gauge, even small window areas can be neatly fitted behind existing frames or openings without the glazing appearing unnaturally thick on the model.

Chevron plate and knurled plate in ship modelling

Modern ships feature numerous non-slip metal surfaces. Such surfaces can be realistically reproduced in models using textured polystyrene sheets with a chevron plate or knurled plate finish.

Typical areas of application include, for example, working decks, walkways, platforms, engine rooms, stair landings and technical superstructures. Particularly on tugs, workboats, naval vessels and other functional models, such surfaces ensure a significantly higher level of detail.

Thanks to the scale-accurate textures, the sheets can be selected to match the size of the respective ship model.

Corrugated polystyrene sheets for technical details

Corrugated polystyrene can also be used for special constructions and detailed work. It is suitable, for example, for replicating profiled cladding, covers and other technical components.

Like other polystyrene sheets, the material can be cut to size, shaped, glued and then painted with suitable model-making paints.

Plastic sheets for scratch-building, conversion and repair

Plastic sheets offer great creative freedom, particularly when building from scratch in model shipbuilding. You can produce your own superstructures to plan, modify existing kits or individually replace missing parts.

Styrene and ABS sheets are also useful for repairs and restorations of older models when damaged or no longer available components need to be remade.
