History of the original:
A landmark of American river navigation
The steamboat Robert E. Lee was one of the most famous icons of American river navigation in the 19th century. It was built in the 19th century. Built in 1866 at a cost of over 200,000 dollars, it was named after the famous Confederate General Robert Edward Lee.
With the introduction of steam propulsion by Robert Fulton and Livingston, the Robert E. Lee and similar vessels transformed American rivers into true waterways.
Equipped with elegant paddle wheels, it dominated the waters of the Mississippi with its majestic presence. In its active days, it played a central role in facilitating trade and communication on the Mississippi and contributed to the rapid economic development of the regions it travelled. It could carry up to 5,741 bales of cotton. The Robert E. Lee carried passengers and goods between the cities of New Orleans and St. Louis.
The steamboat Robert E. Lee immortalised its reputation with one of the most epic races in the history of American waters. In 1870, the Robert E. Lee won a breathtaking race against the Natchez on the Mississippi River in a record time of 3 days, 18 hours and 14 minutes, earning victory and the admiration of all.
