U. S. Constellation
American Frigate 1798
The U.S. Constellation started her active life in 1798 and was withdrawn from service in 1955. Her missions included seizing numerous ships, defending the Hawaiian Islands againts annexation by the British in 1843, and transporting food to Ireland during the Great Famine of 1845-1849.
It was also the first U.S. warship to visit China in 1842 and it became a training vessel in 1871. Today it brings back glorious memories to tens of thousands of tourists who visit her each year in Baltimore.
