History of the original:

The Santisima Trinidad (officially Nuestra Señora de la Santísima Trinidad) was a Spanish ship with initially 120 cannons, which were later increased to 144. It was the largest ship of its time, which is why it was nicknamed El Escorial de los Mares, and was one of the few ships of the line with four bridges that existed. Nevertheless, it was not very effective due to its clumsiness and slow navigation. She is best remembered for her tragic end at the Battle of Trafalgar (21 October 1805). She was under the command of commander Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros and Francisco Javier de Uriarte y Borja as flag captain. After a fierce battle, she was captured by the English under very poor conditions, with more than 200 dead and 100 wounded. The English made every effort to rescue the ship and bring it to the English harbour of Gibraltar, where it was towed by the frigates HMS Naiad and HMS Phoebe. On 24 October, the ship finally sank 25 to 28 miles south of Cádiz. Symbolising the end of Spanish naval power, the greatest weapon of war of its time now lies at the bottom of the sea. Her guns were retrieved and placed at the entrance to the Pantheon of the Naval School in San Fernando (Cádiz).

Kit description:

To create a completely new kit, we have studied the plan found in Saint Petersburg and the monograph by Joaquín Rodríguez Crespo with unrivalled historical fidelity. This model accurately represents the appearance of the ship at the end of its life, at the Battle of Trafalgar, with the correct artillery. It is a perfect miniature of the flagship of the Spanish Navy.

The modeller will find in this new edition of the Trafalgar 1805 kit parts of the highest quality also in solid wood: 14 sheets of precision laser-cut lime plywood and 6 highly detailed photo-etched brass plates with parts such as lanterns, railings or details of the cannons. In addition, 10 packs of mouldings and rods as well as American oak veneer. All blocks and maidens for the rigging are prefabricated. Brass rods and tubes are also included. Impressive is the number of 18 pre-sewn sails made of cotton fabric, ready to attach. Rigging twine, a set of flags made of textured fabric and a wooden display base with a metal nameplate are also included in the kit.

With this faithful replica on a scale of 1:84, you can accurately depict the appearance and artillery of the Santísima Trinidad at the Battle of Trafalgar. The armament that the ship carried with 144 cannons is shown in great detail. Modellers who want to cover the hull of the magnificent model of the Spanish ship with copper plates will find copper tape suitable for this purpose in the kit.

Step-by-step instructions are available for assembly, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Artesania Latina website. The instructions comprise more than 800 pages in digital format, NOT on paper, as well as 10 videos with tips and tricks.  The kit includes two printed posters, one with the 1:1 drawings and another with the parts list and sail designation. In addition, the model ship kit contains several paper templates that make it easier to build the model. Among other things, they are used to arrange the elements on the decks and to place the embrasures and other objects on the sides of the hull.

As a bonus, the model kit of the Spanish ship of the Santísima Trinidad line includes 5 cast metal figures. A set with a further 16 crew is optionally available under accessories.
