Individual copper plates – embossed – for realistic hull planking in model making

These individually embossed copper plates enable particularly authentic reproduction of historical underwater planking in model making. Why copper plates were used on ship hulls

Historical wooden ships were planked with copper plates to protect their underwater hulls from two serious problems: the growth of algae, mussels and barnacles – which could significantly reduce speed – and shipworms, which severely damaged wooden hulls. Copper's natural properties made it both anti-fouling and pest-resistant. This allowed ships to remain fast, manoeuvrable and operational for longer. These embossed copper plates allow this historical principle to be realistically implemented in model making.
