RC-SM-16 – Universal switching module for professional RC model building

The RC-SM-16 is a powerful, freely programmable switching and servo module for demanding ship model building. With 16 individually configurable switching outputs and 4 servo outputs, it enables precise and realistic control of lighting, drives and additional functions on all types of functional and scale ships.

Versatile control options

The RC-SM-16 can be operated via up to 8 proportional channels or alternative control systems:

  • Nautic, multiswitch, multichannel and EMS modules
  • Power plant control pad (including compatible touchpad scripts)
  • Sum signals S-BUS, i-BUS, SUMD, SUMD3
  • Digital switch for SUMD3
  • Bluetooth controller BTC-1 in conjunction with the Android app ‘SFR-1 Controller’

This broad protocol support allows the module to be used in almost all modern RC systems.

Switching outputs and lighting functions

The 16 outputs are freely programmable and can be used to control a wide variety of lighting functions – from classic navigation lights to complex signal states. Each output can be individually assigned brightness, flashing behaviour and function logic.

Typical lighting functions for model ships:

  • Forward/reverse running lights
  • Anchor light (automatic when stationary or manually switchable)
  • All-round lights (white, red, green – in various positions)
  • Top and side lights
  • Stern light and towing light
  • Signal lamps for conditions such as ‘at anchor’, ‘underway’, ‘manoeuvring’, ‘draught restricted’, ‘towing’, “assisting” or ‘fishing’

The stored lighting logic complies with international navigation regulations and enables realistic lighting. Conditions such as ‘at anchor’ and ‘underway’ can be detected and switched manually or automatically via the throttle channel signal.

Sequences are also possible for special effects – such as flashing or strobe patterns for all-round lights, position changes or warning signals.

Servo outputs

The four servo outputs can be controlled individually or programmed as sequences. This allows moving ship elements to be implemented realistically, for example:

  • Rudder systems or side thrusters
  • Up and down movement of cranes or loading booms
  • Opening of flaps or hatches
  • Lifting and lowering of antennas or masts

Two of the servo outputs support time-controlled movement sequences for particularly authentic scenes.

Safe, flexible, convenient

Configuration is carried out using the free Windows software ‘RC-SM-16 Teacher’, which can be used to program all outputs, servos, sequences and lights individually.

Projects can be conveniently transferred to the module using the K-USB-2 data cable (sold separately).

Integrated safety functions:

  • Current monitoring of all outputs
  • Undervoltage shutdown
  • Failsafe in case of signal loss
