Powerful electric motors are needed to drive your model ships. In our shop you will find a large selection of different motors for your individual model ship. From speed motors for a fast drive to gear motors and high-performance DC motors for large model ships, we offer the right motor for every model. Of course, you can also get all the components for trouble-free operation of the electric motor from us, such as cooling coils, motor brackets, mounting brackets or inlets and outlets for the cooling water. So you are well prepared to equip your model ship with an optimally functioning motor.

Brush motor or brushless motors?

With electric motors, a distinction must be made between brushed motors and brushless motors. Brush motors have carbon brushes that establish electrical contact between the commutator and the slip rings of the rotor. They have a shorter service life due to the wear of the carbon brushes, which is why the commutator brushes must be regularly maintained and replaced. Otherwise they could jam or damage the collector, which serves as a mechanical switch in the motor. The carbon brushes also create high friction, resulting in lower power and speed. In the brushless motor, the lack of brushes creates less friction and builds up more mechanical power. Due to the lack of brushes, brushless motors have low wear and a long service life. Both motors run on direct current.

Electric motor power

The power of an electric motor is based on the determination of the speed constant "kV". This indicates the number of revolutions per minute per volt. The more revolutions the motor makes, the higher the speed and thus the speed and power of the electric motor. Motors should also be distinguished by the number of windings (turns) of the electrical conductor of the rotors, which can vary from 3.5 to 35. The number of turns of the insulated wire largely determines the speed and thus the power of the motor. If the coil has a low number of windings, the motor reaches a higher speed, more current is drawn, the torque decreases and the speed increases. A higher number of windings lowers the speed and the current consumption as the torque increases, which reduces the speed. Depending on the model, the appropriate motor should be selected. If you want to equip a racing boat with an electric motor, you need a motor with a low winding on the coil to achieve the necessary speed. For a small fishing boat, on the other hand, a motor with a higher number of windings is sufficient, as speed is not the decisive factor here.
