The history of the HMS Bounty

HMS Bounty was built in England in 1784 and is famous for her dramatic voyage under Captain William Bligh. Originally designed as a merchant ship, the Bounty was chosen for a voyage to Tahiti in 1787 to collect breadfruit plants. On the way, however, a notorious rebellion developed against the captain, led by first mate Fletcher Christian. Bligh and a few loyalists were abandoned in an open boat while the mutineers took control of the Bounty.
The story of the Bounty, its crew and the dramatic voyage of the small dinghy is one of the most fascinating stories of seafaring. Bligh and his men survived an incredible 3,600-mile voyage back to civilisation.
