H.M. BRIGG BADGER
The Badger is said to have been a spoil from the American War of Independence. These brigs were generally used for escort purposes, in coastal areas for transporting goods, for reconnaissance and for maintaining trade agreements. Briggs are only ever cross-rigged on two masts. They are considered to be particularly nimble and manoeuvrable, but also uncomfortable and cramped. Above all, they were always very wet when travelling in heavy seas. The kit depicts the Badger after its restoration for the Royal Navy during Nelson's command from December 1778 to June 1779.
As usual with Calder Craft, the kit is constructed very precisely in co-operation with the British Naval Museum. All wooden parts are CNC-milled to precision and the moulding material is of the highest quality. The fittings are cast in white metal and etched in brass, the gun barrels are turned from brass. Detailed building instructions and construction plans allow for very clean and clear work. The labour required is estimated at approx. 5 months of daily evening work. Sails are not offered for this model.
