The Happy Hunter is a detailed replica of a Dutch ocean-going and salvage tug built for the transport and salvage company MAMMOET. Vessels of this type are primarily used to assist in maritime emergencies or to salvage damaged vessels, but are also used in offshore operations. The towing winch has a double drum on each of which up to 1000m of line can be spooled. The winch has a pulling force of 75t and a holding force of 200t. The hydraulic crane on the main deck has a maximum lifting capacity of 5 t. with an outreach of 8 meters. In the meantime, the ship has undergone various modifications and conversions. Most recently, the ship sailed under the name "Smit Hunter". In June 2003, the Smit Hunter went into dry dock in Rotterdam for extensive maintenance work. During the refurbishment a fire broke out which caused massive damage and led to the scrapping of the ship.
The model was created in 1:50 scale. The hull and parts of the superstructure are made of thermoformed ABS parts. Many details are already molded on the hull and do not need to be added. Structures and superstructure are made of laser cut ABS material and are finely detailed. The model should be powered directly with two high-torque motors. Fixed cort nozzles are used to increase thrust, allowing even the most difficult towing and bowing maneuvers to be performed in conjunction with the optionally available bow thruster. A basic set of attachments can be found in the kit. To equip the model with all fittings and lighting, an additional fittings kit is available. The spacious plastic hull allows the installation of numerous special functions. Experienced modelers will equip the Happy Hunter with working lights, radar, windlass, sound, and towing equipment-much of the necessary preliminary work has already been done, and necessary brackets and fixtures are included in the kit. Even the fully functional removal of the crane is possible. Shafts, rudders, plastic propellers and the Kort nozzles are included in the kit.
If you don't want to worry about the motorization you have to order a drive set with two motors under the number ro1108. Two powerful motors including suppressor and coupling are required. A recommendation for a suitable transverse thruster can be found further down on our page.
